Taqueria Habanero was born from a simple dream, to share the true flavors of home. Founded by Dio and Mirna, a husband-and-wife team who emigrated from Puebla, Mexico, Taqueria Habanero is a family-owned and operated restaurant built on love, hard work, and a passion for authentic Mexican cuisine.

When the doors first opened in Columbia Heights, DC, our mission was clear: to bring the experience of a real Mexican taquería to our community — with the aroma of freshly made tortillas, the heat of habanero salsa, and the warmth of family hospitality. Nearly a decade later, that same heart and soul guide everything we do.

From our kitchen to your table, every taco, every sauce, and every plate tells a story: one of tradition, family, and pride. Many of our recipes are inspired by Puebla’s home-style cooking, the kind you’d find at a family gathering in Mexico. You’ll find our family behind the counter, in the kitchen, or greeting guests!

Our dedication to quality and authenticity has earned us recognition across the region, even a visit from the President of the United States. But at our core, we remain who we’ve always been: a family sharing our heritage through food, one taco at a time.
